General

If you’re a Premium user of the Cycling Junction or Hiking Junction app, you can receive navigation instructions on your Apple Watch (Watch OS 8.6 and higher), Wear OS (version 2 and higher), or Garmin smartwatch while cycling or hiking. At each junction, your smartwatch will show you the next junction. If you stray from your route or go the wrong way, your smartwatch will also let you know. In this article, we explain how this works for each smartwatch.

Step 1

Make sure you have the latest version of the Cycling Nodes or Hiking Nodes app on your iPhone or Android smartphone. You can check this in Google Play or the App Store. You’ll also need an Apple Watch, Wear OS, or Garmin smartwatch connected to the smartphone where the app is installed.

Step 2

Regardless of which smartwatch you use, it is important that notifications from the Fietsknooppunt or Wandelknooppunt app are allowed on your smartphone. The first time you use the app, you will be asked to grant notification permissions. If you already allowed notifications, you can continue to the next step. Otherwise, follow the instructions below.

  1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
  2. Tap Notifications.
  3. Find and select the Fietsknooppunt or Wandelknooppunt app.
  4. Enable Allow Notifications.
  5. We recommend leaving the remaining notification settings at their default values.

  1. Open the Settings app on your Android device.
  2. Tap Apps, Application Manager, or Apps & Notifications.
  3. Find and select the Fietsknooppunt or Wandelknooppunt app.
  4. Tap Notifications or App Notifications.
  5. Enable all notifications.
  6. We recommend leaving the remaining notification settings at their default values.

If you use a Garmin smartwatch, such as a Vivoactive, Venu, Fenix, Forerunner, or similar model, you can receive notifications that assist you during navigation. Please verify that the following settings are configured correctly on the smartphone paired with your Garmin smartwatch:

  1. Open the Garmin Connect app.
  2. Tap More (top left on Android, bottom right on iOS).
  3. Select Garmin Devices and choose your smartwatch.
  4. Tap Notifications & Alerts and then Smartphone Notifications.
  5. Enable Status.
  6. Open General Use and enable Status. Then return and do the same for During Activity.
  7. We recommend leaving the remaining settings at their default values.

Step 3

Finally, enable the Notifications on Smartwatch option in the navigation settings. Open a route in navigation mode, tap the menu button (three dots) in the bottom-right corner, and select Settings. Scroll to the bottom of the settings screen and enable Notifications on Smartwatch as shown below.
