Monument walk Wespelaar

Description

The historical territory of Wespelaar extended to the border of Boortmeerbeek, including Haacht-Station. Despite limited knowledge of Wespelaar's earliest history, the oldest part of the church, the tower, bears witness to a rich history dating back to the 14th century. Historical maps indicate that the characteristic image of the village has remained relatively unchanged over the centuries. The intriguing blend of the castle, the church, and the limited buildings along the Grote Baan forms the essence of this picturesque village.

On December 17, 2018, the village center of Wespelaar was recognized as a protected heritage site on behalf of the Haacht municipal government. Such recognition means that the authentic features and valuable elements of the village, including the castle, the church, and the historical buildings, are preserved and protected. This status ensures that future generations can continue to enjoy the unique charm and historical significance of Wespelaar.
