Icon description route Description

Terlanen is the smallest hamlet in Overijse. But also the greenest! So time for an exploration along Terlanen's slow roads. This walking route takes you not only along slow roads, but also along historic roads.

When the Germans lost World War II, a British camp for German prisoners of war was established in Terlanen field. This Prisoners of War (POW) transit camp numbered 2228 held a total of 195,000 German prisoners of war. They were guarded by Scottish, English and Belgian guards. The camp was planned for 40,000 prisoners of war, but at its peak 60,000 German prisoners of war resided here along both sides of the Nivelles road.
There is not much left of the German POW camp in Terlanen field today. That is why 10 information boards remind us of life in the camp.

The brochure with more info and detailed map can be obtained in the Dru!f visitor center at the info point Leisure in CC Den Blank or order online at www.overijse.be/webwinkel (Products).
