Description
What does the Order of Malta have to do with the rural village of Wommersom? A great deal. The order owned a large, moated castle farm and lands in the village. It fell into disrepair, and in 1895, a man named Jacques de T’Serclaes de Wommersom had a new castle built: the beautiful Wommersom Castle, which you’ll pass by on your walk. Just like the solitary Walsberghoeve, which was also once owned by the Order. Passing through the fields and woods of the Gete Valley, you’ll reach the IJzerenweg, a car-free bike and walking path on the old Tienen-Diest railroad right-of-way.

Monday, December 21, 2020 by R.P.The mostly paved roads make the hike doable even after a very wet period. It runs through a very quiet landscape with a lot of variation of fields, meadows and forests and offers almost continuous beautiful views.

Wednesday, November 18, 2020 by H.D.Beautiful views, but too bad it is on paved roads almost all the time. Ellen long concrete lanes that make the it somewhat boring.
