Description
We did this walk on 11/20/2025 (13,364 steps).
This loop takes you through the Valley of the Great Creek, often better known as Great Laak, a marshy nature reserve with reed beds and wet grasslands. You follow car-free paths along water and fields and discover an old railway line along the way that now crosses the landscape as a bike path.
Forests provide variety and silence, after which wide views lead you back to the starting point. It is a walk full of nature and history, where peace and variety meet.
✨ Character of the walk
Lots of nature: stream valley, marsh, forest, and farmland alternate.
Historical element: the old railway line adds a unique touch.
Peace and quiet: little traffic, mainly car-free paths.
Variety: open landscapes and closed wooded sections provide variety.

Tuesday, July 14, 2026 by S.N.Wooded, but there are also some paved roads. The Merode trail junctions transition into the Tessenderlo Ham trail junctions. Some junctions weren’t marked clearly enough. I had to look for them quite often. Still, it was a peaceful walk.
