Icon description route Description

Park for free at GC 't Blikveld, De Meent, or Sporthal Berentrode between point 11 and point 90.

During this walk, you explore two classics of Bonheiden across different surfaces: forest path, bits of asphalt (usually cycling streets), and even a boardwalk.

The Krankhoeve with its butterfly and insect-friendly garden and playground forms, with its adjacent forest, one of the largest forest cores in the Bruinbeek valley. You will find there, among others, the slowworm, chosen as the cherished species of the municipality. The alternation of forest (up to 250 years old!), meadow, and farms creates a beautiful landscape.

Before you know it, you are standing via the low bridge at point 94 in the green domain of the Gothic castle Zellaer, which has preserved some medieval touches. The battlements, drawbridge, loopholes, and moats served only a decorative function. In and around the castle, there is often a lot to do.

High walking shoes recommended. Dogs on a leash. Dining options between point 11 and point 90 or in the center of Bonheiden.

Wednesday, February 11, 2026 by Kristien MellebeekNice walk! Lots of forest and sandy paths, so sometimes a bit soggy when it has rained a lot, but all in all very pleasant.

Saturday, January 24, 2026 by Elke Van KelstA pleasant walk with lots of nature. With the virtual junctions, it always takes a bit of searching. The castle is definitely worth a visit!

Saturday, December 13, 2025 by Herman Van den ReeckVery nice route but still different work points. Parking better at town hall instead of Zellaarstraat. Unclear traffic sign (NP in street: still boxes). Between kn.91 and 93 dangerous crossing and a bit further chain, where you can cross anyway. At kn.94 be careful : walk through dry stream. Castle domain Zellaar very beautiful but stay within the domain.
