Before long, you’ll leave the houses of Bierbeek behind and disappear along a beautiful sunken path through the trees of the Mollendaalbos, part of the famous Meerdaal Forest with its more than a thousand thick oak trees. You’ll pass the oldest one on Dikke Eikdreef. This monumental oak is over 300 years old and has a trunk with a circumference of more than five meters. In the spring, the area is blanketed in a beautiful white carpet of wood anemones. Along the way, you’ll come across several mysterious and fairy-tale-like tree sculptures. They are the work of local tree artist Ad Wouters.

Due to the good weather, it was very crowded at the beginning of the hike, but once further into the forest, this calmed down. The only thing I found unfortunate is that the hiking trail runs together a lot with mountain bike trails, so we (there were 2 of us) had to step aside very often.
