Start and end of this route: Steinbach, Mettlach. Normally, this walking loop starts in Orscholz; we parked in the spacious, free parking lot by the Saar. It is a magnificent hike with a steep climb to the Cloef viewpoint, followed by a descent to the banks of the Saar. This meander in the river is said to be one of the most beautiful in Germany.

Along the way, you regularly get stunning views of the Saar valley. The descent goes through the picturesque valley of the Steinbach. Apart from this walking route, there are several other routes of different lengths.

You can also, for a fee, walk the Saarschleife Treetop Walk, which is about 1.25 km long. With the Welles ferry, you can cross the Saar. The crossing is included in the Saarschleife Tafeltour.
