Description
Explore the city of the “Pjeirefretters”—a nickname given to the residents of Vilvoorde in the 18th century, when boats on the Brussels-Scheldt Sea Canal were pulled by horses. The old horses ended up on the dinner plate. Horse steak is still a specialty at a number of restaurants. This walk offers a glimpse of the neoclassical town hall, the 16th-century Dominican monastery, and the penitentiary, one of the country’s first “modern” prisons. You’ll walk through the Kanaalpark and briefly follow the charming Zennepad.
