An introduction to the Hestergem neighborhood in Opwijk, which begins at Kapellebaan and extends to Lebbeke. It was named after the Frankish settlement of Haistharingaheim. You’ll start at Hof ten Hemelrijk, Opwijk’s community hub, which has been transformed into a recreational park featuring an amphitheater, a playground, and an old-growth orchard. Along the way, you’ll pass the former Affligem brewery and follow a section of the Leirekensroute along the disused Aalst–Londerzeel railroad line.

Tuesday, November 11, 2025 by Chris De BockSuitable walk for when it has rained. Variety of streets and small roads. To a limited extent along a slightly larger road, but we were not bothered by traffic (it was a holiday though). Good to get some fresh air if you don't live too far away.
