Icon description route Description

Achterbos, a picturesque hamlet in the Belgian municipality of Mol, offers a beautiful and diverse hiking experience.

In terms of population, Achterbos ranks second after Mol-Center. This wooded area is often captured in the works of artists Jakob Smits and his pupil Dirk Baksteen, who are both buried in the cemetery of Mol-Achterbos.

Historically, Achterbos had a chapel dedicated to Saint Apollonia, known for pilgrimages to cure toothache since 1678. After the destruction of the chapel in 1862 and a devastating fire in 1876, Achterbos became an independent parish in 1889. The current Saint Apollonia Church, with its characteristic gable roof tower, dates from 1932.
