Description
The “Witloofboerke” statue waves goodbye to you at your starting point, in the heart of Kampenhout. The sculpture by Luc Mathijs is a tribute to the farmers who turned Kampenhout into a true chicory village. Chicory cultivation took hold in the villages east of Brussels in the late 19th century, and farmers still grow chicory using the traditional open-field method. During the right season, you can buy a box of chicory here straight from the farmer. Stop by Café Het Labo at Van Campenhout Brewery for a freshly poured Witlov 6 or Witlov 9.

Friday, February 27, 2026 by C.B.A fairly long walk but not very tiring because it is completely flat. The scenery is not very varied (recently built houses, fields, a small patch of forest, ditches, and streams). At the end of February, there were many very wet areas (puddles several meters wide). The route is difficult to follow between points 128 and 137.

Sunday, February 7, 2021 by Hugo DeconinckHow is it possible that in a municipality with such treasure and attention to slow roads such a trail is offered? Revision and densification of the trail network should be possible here.
