Description
With the Barebeek River as your guide, you’ll explore Hofstade along paths that are sometimes unpaved, with the occasional stately tree-lined avenue. These paths take you near the Sport Vlaanderen estate, the oldest and most versatile center of the Flemish government, surrounded by a 172-hectare nature reserve. You’ll walk a short stretch along the Leuven-Dijle Canal, catch a glimpse of the austere, classicist Ambroos Castle, and find peace in the grasslands of the Prinsenveld nature reserve.

Thursday, May 21, 2026 by M.L.A lovely walk for anyone who enjoys looking at houses. For the most part, you’ll be walking through residential neighborhoods, with only the occasional stretch through a small wooded area or meadow. The section along the canal is apparently reserved for speedy cyclists, so it can be quite stressful. For us, this wasn’t the ideal walk. The signage is excellent.

Often no footpath either, so you have to walk on the road, while cars do pass. The stretches along the water are beautiful, but you are driven into the side by the cyclists whizzing by at high speed.

The starting point is on a busy road but we walk pretty quickly into a side road after which we can enjoy between fields, through forests, along the water and in beautiful residential areas. After 6 km of walking there is also a nice playground for the kids and at bet end it is also possible to shorten the walk if needed.
