The NodeMapp Hike app received a significant update

Over the past few months we’ve been working behind the scenes on a new version of our app. No worries: everything you already loved is still here. But we’ve introduced a host of major and minor updates to give you even better hiking adventures. You can download or update the app for free in the App Store or Google Play.

Dark mode: discover hikes in your style

Whether you’re quickly plotting a route in the evening or just want to give your eyes a break, with our dark mode the app stays comfortable and energy-efficient.

By default the app follows your device’s theme setting automatically. Prefer to decide for yourself when it’s dark or light? Tap “More” at the bottom of the app to adjust your preferences.

Navigation greatly improved

We’ve given our navigation mode a complete overhaul.

Landscape mode

Landscape mode is now also available on iOS. You can switch orientation (portrait or landscape) via a button at the top of the map. We’ve also optimized landscape mode to make navigation more comfortable when you prefer to hold your device sideways.

Track display

During navigation, we now display the route you’ve taken in blue. If you’d rather not use this feature, you can disable it in the navigation settings.

Improved distance measurement

The distance you’ve covered and the distance remaining… all measurements are now more accurate.

Smartwatch notifications

Using a smartwatch of any brand? In the navigation settings you can enable smartwatch notifications. All turn-by-turn directions will then appear as notifications on your watch.

Share your best photos

In the route planner and on other maps in the app you’ll find this photo icon:

Tap the photo icon to snap pictures of landscapes, buildings, heritage sites, and more while you’re on the trail. You can share these photos with us so we can showcase them on the map for other users. That way you help fellow hikers discover the most scenic routes.

Fun extra: until September 30, 2025, you’ll have a chance to win a €50 Coolblue gift voucher by sending us your best hiking snapshots. If one of your photos ranks among the top 10 when the contest ends, the voucher is yours.

Favorite routes

Under “Discover” you’ll always find a curated selection of suggested routes. These come from our tourism partners and from our Pathfinders—selected app users who share their favorite hikes. You can now add any route to your favorites so it’s easy to find later under “My Routes”.

Many small improvements

We’ve also refined lots of details:

• The route planner has been subtly enhanced. Plotting a route is now even smoother.
• Choose your preferred app language (Dutch, French, German or English).
• In navigation settings you can adjust the voice guidance volume.
• You can “like” your favorite routes to encourage their creators to keep publishing great hikes.
• Posting a review for a route has been made more intuitive.
• The filter for finding your favorite hike has been expanded.
