Description

Departed from a parking lot at junction 9 in Roesbrugge.

We quickly arrive in Haringe, where we see information boards about the smuggling area and the statue of Karel de Blauwer, a well-known smuggler. With this bike ride, we travel through the French Houtland, with lots of gentle hills and hedged fields along the way. In the distance, we see the Catsberg and the Casselberg, part of the West Flemish hill ridge.

The first village in France is Houtkerke. From Houtkerke, we cycle to Steenvoorde, where we see many windmills and yellow flower meadows. Then we go to Arneke, Esquelbecq, Wormhout... On the way, we also see many information boards about the area. A quiet, slightly hilly bike ride through the different villages of the Houtland.

And at the border, we greet the border guard. In Roesbrugge, we cross the Yser and see the starting point for the kayaks.
