We ended up following the signs to Blankenberge and that way got back on the right route, but we ran into another problem just before Zuienkerke. We did find it on the website where you can plan your own route.

Quite a few stretches close to a busy road, views often disturbed by industry, many concrete stables of the farms. Must have once been a nicer trail when the farms were authentic. Village of Houtave is highly recommended!
