You start at the August De Boeck House, formerly the director's house of the boys' school, now dedicated to Merchtem composer August De Boeck. Cycle along the "Leirekensroute," an old railroad bed, toward Steenhuffel. The route meanders over and along the Grote Molebeek, which used to dare to burst its banks. To cross the water, the people of Merchtem came up with stilts. The statue of the stilt walkers is sure to catch your eye at the start. You can certainly take a break in one of the charming villages such as Rossem, Meuzegem or Ossel.

You also cycle quite a lot on bicycle paths where you only have to be careful at crossroads and the route runs along quiet streets. In short, enjoy ;-)
