Be surprised by the 23 fern species that flourish here and explore the secrets of the Burchtbos. Feel free to leave your bicycle behind and explore the nature reserve via the beautiful footpaths.

Continue cycling to the waters of the Ijsselmeer. Near the province of Friesland, cycle up the dike and pedal along the largest lake in the Netherlands. Originally the Ijsselmeer was salty, but since it was closed off from the Wadden Sea by the Afsluitdijk in 1932, it quickly sweetened completely as only fresh water was supplied via the Ijssel. This is still the case today.
